Prescriptions
With the agreement of your GP you can get further supplies of regular medicines without having to be seen by a doctor every time.
- Prescriptions are only available to be ordered as a repeat once the condition is stable and monitoring is up to date.
- You are required to attend a medication review annually to ensure safe and effective prescribing.
- Requests must be made in writing to avoid mistakes and misunderstandings. We cannot accept telephone requests as they may be unclear and result in error.
We ask that all repeat prescriptions are requested using one of the following 2 methods:
- In writing by returning your counterfoil or by downloading and returning our prescription request form and placing the completed forms in either the post box at the surgery or in the black box within the reception area.
- Online via the Patient Access website or app where you can order, pick the medication you need from the 'request medication' field, and add a comment e.g. 'require medication early'.
Prescriptions are processed in the order they are requested. To allow time for necessary checks to be made we need 2 working days to issue prescriptions, so please order in good time when you have 7-10 days’ supply left, and allow 48 hours (excluding weekends and bank holidays) before collecting it from your nominated pharmacy or from the surgery.
Further information to note
- If you need your prescription issued very early, or for a longer duration than usual, because you are going to be away from home, please explain this in writing. Usually we do not issue prescriptions more than 10 days before they are due.
- Online requests are picked up until 1 pm. Any request made after this time will be actioned the following working day. Please leave TWO WORKING DAYS between ordering repeat medication and its collection.
- Any medication order placed after 1.00pm will be counted as being ordered on the next working day (Monday - Friday) and will be processed accordingly. Medication ordered online after 1.00 pm on Friday will be processed on Monday morning and will therefore be ready for collection on Wednesday.
- Most prescriptions are sent electronically via EPS to the pharmacy of your choice. The nominated pharmacy can be changed at the practice, online or at the pharmacy.
- We will only issue a maximum of 2 months' medication at a time. If you have a very special, one off, reason for asking for more than 2 month's supply please provide details as this will have to be approved by your GP.
- Repeat prescriptions for the contraceptive pill will be provided by the nurse after the necessary health checks are made. If you run out before you can get an appointment you can order a 1 month emergency supply.
